What I want to be when I grow up
I grew up with the Jetsons, a futuristic cartoon family pushing buttons to perform all their household chores. I thought it would be so cool that someday in the future all people would have to do is push a button to get their work done. Never for a moment did I actually think that I would have a job where all I do is push buttons. Today, I gets loads of my work done by pushing the buttons on my keyboard. It's ok to sit around and push buttons when you develop software for a living.

I also enjoyed puzzles growing up. The wire puzzles, and the ring stuck on the horseshoes welded to a chain, and sliding block wood puzzles would occupy me for hours if not days and weeks. I would try different things, sometimes moving forward, but often backing away from the goal to reach a final solution. Never for a moment did I think I would have a job where all I do is solve puzzles. Today, I figure out how to make software meet our goals. It's a puzzle to be solved and I get paid to solve those puzzles.

As a kid, I rode my bike everywhere. I rode to baseball practice. I rode to the store. I rode to my friend's house. Sometimes we would ride just so we could ride. Never for a moment did I think I would be riding my bike as an adult. Today, I ride my bike to the office. It's called a commute, and it's way more fun than taking the car.

Maybe I don't have to completely grow up.
